Approach

First, was to modernize it to make it multifunctional across a plethora of platforms, social media and the like.  Take elements from the original logo, mainly, both the original fonts and update them.

Solution

Changed the overall composition from the star to a circular, americana themed, instantly recognizable from first glance.  Changed both fonts slightly from the original, with the intent to be used both in the logo and as a wordmark.  Color wise, I changed the royal blue into a navy, as well as darkend the red slightly.
